CUH VB: Swords Sign Four From Hawaii

Auelua, Pedro, Powell and Vivieros round out stellar class

Honolulu, HI- Chaminade University’s Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Glennie Adams is pleased to announce the signing of four student athlete standouts from Hawaii for the upcoming 2009 season. Alzie Auelua 5’10 MB/OH (Radford HS, Honolulu, HI), Crystal Powell 5’10 OH (Word of Life Academy, Honolulu, HI), Kylee Pedro 5’10 MB/OH (Mid Pacific Institute, Honolulu, HI) and Whitney Viveiros 5’10 OH (Kamehameha/Kapalama Campus, Honolulu, HI) will all join the Silverswords for the 2009 campaign. Alzie Auelua 5’10 MB/OH (Radford HS, Honolulu, HI) comes to Chaminade from Western New Mexico University, where she started for the past two seasons at both outside or middle. Auelua is a 2006 graduate of Radford High School and was named the Oahu Interscholastic Association (White) Player of the Year following her senior season in 2005. At the conclusion of this past year’s season she was recognized by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) as a first team selection. Crystal Powell 5’10 OH (Word of Life Academy, Honolulu, HI) comes to Chaminade from Word of Life Academy and is a member of the Oahu Volleyball Club. She was named First Team All-State for her senior campaign and amassed 76 kills in 4 matches during the D-II State Tournament. Kylee Pedro 5’10 MB/OH (Mid Pacific Institute, Honolulu, HI) set to graduate from Mid Pacific Institute (MPI), Kylee plays club ball for 'Imi Ike. Although MPI failed to qualify for the state tournament, Pedro’s talents were recognized, as she was chosen as an honorable mention selection to the 2008 All-State team. Whitney Viveiros 5’10 OH (Kamehameha/Kapalama Campus, Honolulu, HI) comes to Chaminade from Kamehameha Schools Kapalama and most recently Word of Life Academy. Whitney plays her club ball with Kylee Pedro on the 'Imi Ike club team. Viveiros was a starting outside hitter for Kamehameha’s championship team in 2008, and totaled 25 kills and 18 digs at the D-I State Tournament. She capped off her senior season by being named to the All-State First Team.
