HONOLULU – The Chaminade University softball team made their 2017-18 debut Friday, facing Hawai'i-Manoa in the annual non-championship season Kama'aina Tournament which is being held this year at McKinley High School Field.
The Silverswords, who feature eight freshmen on the squad, were held to two hits by their Division I counterparts in the 8-0 loss.
Both hits were doubles by juniors.
Rainelle Matsuoka (Honolulu/Kaiser) doubled to right field in the fourth inning and
Kayla Henmi (Torrance, Calif./South) led off the sixth with two-bagger to the right-center fence.
Henmi also had an 11-pitch at-bat against Rainbow Wahine starter Dana Thomsen in the third, drawing a walk after falling behind the count 0-2.
Freshman
Madelyn Stockslager (Torrance, Calif./South) made her collegiate debut in the exhibition contest, tossing four innings, allowing one earned run with three strikeouts. Fellow freshman
Deven Dickson (Avondale, Calif./Westview) pitched the final two innings, allowing six runs. However, all were unearned.
The Kama'aina Tournament concludes Saturday with the Silverswords facing Fullerton College at 1 p.m., then facing Hawai'i in the tournament finale at 5 p.m.
