AUSTIN, Texas – Chaminade University's
Tyler Cartaino (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) on Tuesday was named to the Academic All-America® Division II Men's Basketball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It is a repeat selection for the senior wing who last year was voted by Division II sports information directors across the country to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Second Team.
Cartaino is the first Chaminade student-athlete as a two-time recipient of the honor and is the first Silversword to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team honors.
Cartaino received his Bachelor's degree in accounting last May, graduating with a cumulative 3.83 grade point average as an undergraduate. This academic year, he is taking graduate courses where he maintains a 3.50 GPA as a graduate student.
On the court, Cartaino earned All-Pacific West Conference First Team honors for a second consecutive year. He concluded his career as the PacWest's leading scorer this season at 20.8 points per game, the only player in the conference to average over 20 per outing. He also shot 55.2 percent from the field, fourth-highest in the PacWest.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams programs.
