The Chaminade University men's basketball team picked their first conference win tonight at Western New Mexico, 98-75. The Swords improve to 4-10 on the season while WNMU drops to 3-11.
Chaminade scored the first basket of the game and never relinquished the lead. CU took a 41-29 into halftime after shooting 50% from the field and holding WNMU to just 31%.
The second half was more of the same as the Swords continued to outman the Mustangs. Chaminade held a13 point lead with 10:33 remaining before going on a 17-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Kashif Reyes led the Swords with 21 points on 6-9 shooting, including 6-8 from behind the arc. Bryon Sykes scored 17 points on 7-10 shooting and Roy Stigall added 13. Junior Dustin Mittelsteadt tallied his first "double-double" in a Silversword uniform by scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Swords and Mustangs face off again on Thursday night in Silver City before CU travels to Montana State-Billings to end the 10-day, four game road trip.
