Laie, HI- The Chaminade University women's softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with BYU-Hawaii on Monday. The Swords took a 1-0 loss in game one but rallied to take the second game, 4-2, behind Natalie Alcala's three RBI's. With the split the Swords improve to 10-27 on the season and BYUH moves to 11-16.
BYU-Hawaii scored the only run of game one in the sixth inning with a double to right-center field to score a runner from second. The Seasiders needed held the Swords to just four singles and one walk while striking out four to end the game. Donnell Wittekind took the loss for the Silverswords despite allowing just three hits.
In game two, Chaminade scored twice in both the second and third innings and held off the Seasiders the rest of the way. Loihi McKeague pitched out of trouble several times and the Seasiders had a couple of runners cut down on the basepaths, including one at home plate, to stifle their scoring chances. Wittekind pitched the last inning for Chaminade to gain the save. Brooke Hilton took the loss for the Seasiders.
The Swords host Hawaii Hilo on the April 16th at Palolo field. Game times are set for 4 & 6 PM.
