Swords Split with Sea Warriors

Kaneohe, HI - The Chaminade University women's softball team split a pair of Pacific West Conference games with Hawaii Pacific on Sunday. The Swords move to 11-30 on the season.

It was a pitching contest in game one of the doubleheader, between HPU's Malia Sullivan and CU Donnell Wittekind. Sullivan gave up her first hit of the game in the third inning, allowed two hits in the sixth inning, and then three hits in the seventh inning that gave CU the 1-0 lead. Wittekind gave up a hit in the first and third inning, then allowed two more in the sixth, but tallied 16 fly balls from the HPU offense. Kara Wedemeyer, Rachel Lacar, Brandy Choy Foo, and Holly Garcia each had a hit for the Sea Warriors. Sullivan got the loss and fell to 7-6 on the season.

CU's Heidi Garcia went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored the games only run.

The Lady Sea Warriors came out strong in the second game, with Wedemeyer leading the offense. She went 2-for-4 with a triple, scored two runs, and also got help from Choy Foo and Garcia. Choy Foo went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and scored twice, while Garcia went 1-for-2 with a walk and had two RBIs. Jennifer Baron went 1-for-3 and hit her seventh homer of the season. Mallory Anderson tossed a one-hitter and recorded her first shutout of the season in the complete-game win.
