Silverswords Move to 3-0 in PacWest Play

Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University men's basketball team defeated Western New Mexico University 93-83 tonight to improve to 9-4 on the season, 3-0 in PacWest play.  The Mustangs fall to 6-7, 0-2.

The Swords got off to a slow start and fell behind 39-33 at the break. WNMU shot 44% in the first half including 4-6 from long range while Chaminade connected on just 35% from the field and 25% from behind the arc.

CU rallied in the second half and outscored the Mustangs 60-44 on 57% shooting. The Swords forced WNMU into 13 turnovers on the game compared to CU's 8 and dished out 22 assists to Western's 15.

Dustin Mittelsteadt led five Silverswords in double figures with 25 points. He also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 2 assists. Dylan McCune scored 16 points while Corey Campbell and Chris Reaves chipped in 15 apiece. Reaves also handed out 10 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds. Zack Whiting added 10 points and 6 assists in 23 minutes of play.

Mike Sells led WNMU with 17 points and Trey Clarkson added 16 points and 4 rebounds.

The Silverswords and Mustangs face off again on Saturday afternoon in McCabe Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM.
