Hilo, HI- In front of a raucous crowd, Chaminade defeated the Vulcans of UH-Hilo 95-83.
The game was competitive throughout, but Chaminade was ahead by 10 at the break. UH-Hilo, however, would not quit and fought back early in the second half behind the three point shooting of Justin Dobson and Justin Griffin. Chaminade proved to be too much on this evening,as balanced scoring and timely shooting once again proved to be the difference. "We are at our best when we are sharing the ball" said Coach Mahar. "It was evident tonight, our guys hit some big shots."
Zack Whiting led the Swords with 20 points to go along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds and Chris Nelson added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Three other Swords were in double figures, Corey Campbell had 13, Chris Reaves 15 to go along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds, while Chris Powell was a presence inside with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
Justin Griffin led the Vulcans with 24 points.
Chaminade improves to 12-4, 5-0 in the PacWest, while UH-Hilo falls to 11-5, 1-2 in PacWest play.
