Swords Suffer Setback

Jan. 22, 2006

Hilo, HI- Same venue, same raucous crowd, completely different result. The Swords dropped their first game in well over a month to the Vulcans of UH-Hilo 84-79.

UH-Hilo was up from the start and led throughout the first half and went to break up 45-40. The second half was a back and forth physical battle, with the teams combining to shoot 59 free throws on the night.

The Swords were led by Chris Reaves and Zack Whiting who had 27 and 26 points respectively in the loss. Only two CUH players were in double figures. "It's no secret, that's not who we are. We are a team who shares the ball and a team that can shoot the ball very well. That was not evident at all tonight" said Coach Mahar. "You have to credit Hilo, they got us playing their way, and were successful with it"

Justin Griffin led four Vulcans in double figures with 23 points in the win.

UH-Hilo improves to 12-5, 2-2 in the PWC, and the Swords fall to 12-5, 5-1 in PWC play.

Chaminade is back in action on the 25th vs. HPU at the Blaisdell Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
