Hilo, HI- In the first of two meetings, the Lady Swords gave a valiant effort in defeat versus the Vulcans of UH-Hilo.
The game was a scoreless draw heading into the half with Michelle Halloran making five saves to keep the score knotted at zero headed to the break. Karen Weatherby opened up the scoring with the first of her two goals two minutes into the second half when she put the ball into the back of the net off a scramble in front. The Lady Swords did not falter however and came back with a goal off the foot of Carla Byers that landed over the goalie and into the right corner of the net to even the score at one.
UH-Hilo answered five minutes later with the second score by Karen Weatherby that proved to be the game winner. Kelly White tacked on another goal off a free kick at 76:44 for the final tally of 3-1.
Michelle Halloran led the Swords with 11 saves. Jessica Carvalho added a save for UH-Hilo.
Chaminade falls to 0-5 on the year with the loss. CUH is set to entertain the Vulcans in a rematch on Saturday, October 7th at St. Louis field. Game time is set for 1:30 PM.
