Honolulu, HI- Following up a physical affair in Hilo, HI, Saturday's men's match-up pitting the Vulcans against Chaminade University's Silverswords proved no less physical as UH-Hilo downed the CUH 2-0.
Chaminade was again tight early, as the game was tied until JD Baba put the Vulcans on the board with an assist from Nick Shaffer at 34:46 in the first half. Marc Contee was his usual self for Chaminade creating opportunities for the Chaminade offense and getting off six shots on the evening. The teams went to break with Chaminade down 1-0.
The score stayed tenuous until Drew Geis scored unassisted in the 76th minute. That proved to be the end of the scoring as the Vulcans were victorious 2-0. Darren Smith had six saves for Chaminade while Marc Fournier had three for the Vulcans.
CUH falls to 0-8 with the loss, while UH-Hilo improves to 4-3-1 with the win. The Swords are back in action in California on October 12th versus Notre Dame de Dame. Game time is set for 4PM.
