Ellensburg, WA- In the first-ever regular season game for Chaminade University's Women's Basketball program, the Swords fell to the Wildcats of Central Washington 80-45.
Chaminade fell behind early, but managed to battle back in the second half. The Swords were led by the hot shooting of forward, Brittnee Fonnesbeck who scored a team high 36 points on 14-30 shooting from the field to go along with 5 rebounds. Desiree Staples led Chaminade with 6 rebounds on the evening, while Samantha Saito led Chaminade in assists and steals with three of each.
The Swords won the turnover battle, but lost the rebounding battle to the bigger Wildcats 58-28 for the evening.
With the loss, the Swords fall to 0-1 on the year, while Central Washington improves to 2-1 overall.
Chaminade is back in action on Friday, November 24th against the Nanooks of Alaska-Fairbanks in Fairbanks, AK. Game time is set for 5:00PM AT.
