Swords Basketball Falls to Nanooks 83-59 in North Star Invitational

Fairbanks, AK- In the opening round of the 2006 Mt. McKinley North Star Invitational Chaminade fell to the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks by a score of 83-59.

Junior Brittnee Fonnesbeck again led Chaminade University in scoring, with 14 points on the evening. Currently, Fonnesbeck is averaging 25 points per contest. Samantha Saito and Simrin Cummins were also in double figures with 11 and 13 points respectively. Each also added 7 rebounds. Katherine Carlisle was a spark off the bench with 9 points, including 2-4 from the arc.

The game was tight early with Chaminade leading 13-12 with just under nine minutes gone in the first half. The Swords made a 15-5 run in the second half as well to help cut the deficit. The Nanooks were led by Sheena Brown with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

With the loss, the Swords fall to 0-2 on the year, while Alaska improves to 3-1 overall.

Chaminade is back in action on Saturday, November 25th against Cal-Poly Pomona in Fairbanks, AK in the North Star Invitational Consolation game. Game time is set for 3:00PM AT.
