Honolulu, HI- In a game that featured two high scoring offenses, neither Chaminade or Grand Canyon disappointed in a 114-107 Silversword win.
The game started off fast and Grand Canyon, due to some hot shooting (50% from 3, 51% from the floor) took a 54-45 lead into the half. In the first half, sharp shooter Rich Davis had 20 points, to go along with teammate Noe Alonzo's 17.
The second half found an inspired Silversword squad, with hot shooting Dylan McCune connecting from deep (6-13) for 22 points and Chris Reaves doing a lot of everything with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in 45 minutes of action. Zack Whiting and Marko Kolaric both added impressive double-doubles with Whiting contributing 12 points and 13 assists, while Kolaric added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Stewart Kussler added 15 points, including five on consecutive possessions in overtime to help seal the victory.
The Swords led 98-95 in the final moments of regulation when Rich Davis hit a contested three to tie the game. Davis shot a scorching 8-13 from behind the arc and ended up with 32 points to lead the `Lopes. Noe Alonzo added 27 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. Chaminade out rebounded GCU 40-34, and by 8 in the second half.
With the win CUH improves to 16-8 on the year, while Grand Canyon falls to 17-7. The Swords next game is Saturday, February 25th at 7:30pm against HPU. It is Chaminade's last home game and is senior night for five Sword seniors: Corey Campbell, Dylan McCune, Chris Nelson, Chris Powell and Chris Reaves.
