Chaminade Bounces Back Against UH-Hilo 88-85

Honolulu, HI- In a game as physical as any played on the islands, Chaminade defeated UH-Hilo 88-85 to improve to 1-1 in conference play.

The game was back and forth early on, as Chaminade University took a 5 point lead 28-23, only to see UH-Hilo claw back and take a 41-34 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same. A Dan Wendt three-pointer tied the score 59-59 with 12:41 to play. The game was close the rest of the way, with Chaminade's lead of 80-73 being the biggest in the closing minutes.

UH-Hilo did not have an answer for Zack Whiting as the senior had 23 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds. CUH had four other players in double figures, led by Marko Kolaric's 17 points and 8 rebounds. Mike Green added 14 points, Darrell Birton 13 points and Stewart Kussler 12 points in the win.

Travis Sobers was scorching hot for the Vulcans, connecting on 6-10 from three and scoring 22 points on the afternoon. Sam Wilhoite, a Kailua, Hawaii native, had a double-double for UH-Hilo, scoring 17 points and adding 11 rebounds, 6 offensive.

With the win the Swords improve to 9-5, while UH-Hilo falls to 4-10 overall.

Chaminade entertains BYU-Hawaii on January 11th in McCabe Gym. Game time is set for 7:30 PM and will be televised on OC16.
