Honolulu, HI- In the first of two meetings in McCabe Gym, Chaminade fell to the `Lopes of Grand Canyon 56-54.
The game went down to the final possession after a Milee Karre missed free throw. Chaminade was down two after the miss with just under ten seconds remaining. Zack Whiting was fouled and the Swords took the ball underneath with five seconds left.
Whiting took a six foot jump-shot with two seconds left that fell just short and the Swords lost 56-54.
The game was a defensive battle with neither team going ahead by more than four points the final ten minutes.
Zack Whiting led Chaminade with 17 points and 10 assists, while Darrell Birton added 12 points on 4-4 shooting from the arc.
Bryan Lee led GCU with 13 points. The loss moves Chaminade to 13-9 on the year, while Grand Canyon moves to 15-7 overall.
Chaminade is back in action tomorrow tonight at 8PM vs. Grand Canyon.
