Chaminade Women's Basketball Drops Game To Grand Canyon

Honolulu, HI- Chaminade fell to conference powerhouse Grand Canyon University, 19-4 overall and 12-0 in conference play tonight 96-53. Despite shooting 42% in the first half the Swords could not handle the `Lopes defensive pressure. GCU forced 23 first half turnovers and disrupted the offensive flow for CUH.

The Silverswords cut their second half turnover stat to 12 but it was not enough, poor shooting and a smothering defense held Chaminade to just 23 second half points.

Simrin Cummins turned in the best overall performance for the Swords, racking up 14 points, shooting 7-12 from the field, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Katherine Carlisle and Brittnee Fonnesbeck added 13 and 12 respectively with Fonnesbeck pulling down 7 rebounds. Freshman Samantha Saito had 9 points and 6 assists on the night.

The `Lopes were led by Rosalyn Nelson with 25 points.

With the loss Chaminade falls to 3-16 and Grand Canyon improves to 19-4. The Swords are back in action against Grand Canyon, Thursday afternoon, 2:00 p.m. at McCabe Gym.
