Swords Go Down In Nailbiter With Grand Canyon 71-68

Honolulu, HI- In the last of three meetings, Chaminade fell to the `Lopes of Grand Canyon 71-68.

For the second time in two nights, the game went down to the final possession. Grand Canyon was ahead three points with less than thirty seconds left when Darrell Birton hit a three from the right wing to tie the game 68-68. The `Lopes decided to go without a timeout and Rich Davis hit a well-contested three from the top of the key with 2.2 seconds to go.

The Swords got another opportunity as Darrell Birton's three at the buzzer went off the rim and Grand Canyon left with a 71-68 win.

Zack Whiting led three Swords in double figures with 19 points, Stewart Kussler added 15 points and Marko Kolaric added 10 points to go along with 13 rebounds in the win.

Chaminade out-rebounded the `Lopes 35-31, but GCU shot 50% from three in the win.

Rich Davis led GCU with 25 points.

With the loss, Chaminade falls to 13-10 and GCU improves to 16-7 overall.

**Senior Night-Chaminade is back in action Saturday afternoon at 2PM vs. Notre Dame de Namur. The game will mark the last home game for senior All-American candidate Zack Whiting.
