Honolulu, HI- The Swords capture their fourth win over Hawaii Pacific University in as many games. Despite a depleted roster, with the injury to Simmrin Cummins the night before, Chaminade called upon its bench and it delivered.
The Swords came out and started off slow in the first half, playing solid defense but having a hard time getting into their offensive rhythm. The Sea Warriors controlled most of the first half and took a 5 point lead into half time 29-24. Katherine Carlisle was the leading scorer at half with 10 points. Fonnesbeck had 6 points and 7 rebounds, leading the team in the rebounding category at half.
The Swords came out to play in the second half. Coach O'Dell said after the game, "that is the strongest we have come out in the second half this season." Fonnesbeck kicked her offense into high gear scoring 25 points in the second half alone finishing with 31 and pulling down 10 boards for a double-double night. Katherine Carlisle added 14 points and had 7 rebounds of her own. Samantha Saito had 9 points on the night going 5-6 from the free throw line.
HPU was led by Constance Decaires with 29 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Shannon Miyashiro and Chelsey Mcquate were the second leading scorers with 6 each.
With the win Chaminade improves to 5-18 and 4-11 in Pac West Conference play. HPU falls to 2-24 and 2-14. The Swords take on Hawaii-Hilo Saturday March3, 7:00pm, Hilo HI.
