Hilo, HI - CUH battled back from a first game loss, 30-22, to nab their second win of the young season. The Silverswords took the next three games, 33-31, 30-27, and 30-18 to take the match 3-1.
In what would prove to be a match filled with excitement and emotion. The Swords were forced to battled back from a slow start in game one. Game two saw CUH going down to the wire and finally finishing Briar Cliff University off by a score of 33-31. This dramatic win seemed to spark the Swords who came out and took game three 30-27. With this, the chemistry was clicking and Chaminade impressively finished the Chargers off with a 30-18 fourth game victory.
The Swords were led by a balanced offensive attack with Trina Kauliakamoa, Samantha Miller and Evelyn Bluthenthal notching fifty-seven of the teams seventy-one kills, twenty- two, nineteen and sixteen respectively. Bluthenthal finished the night with a .481 attack percentage. Tanya Alvino was generous serving up fifty-five assists on the night.
The defense was just as distributed across the court with three players in double figures in digs. Krista Catian, Tanya Alvino, and Trina Kauliakamoa had twenty-three, seventeen and fourteen digs respectively.
Kauliakamoa and Alvino both finished the night with a double-double, Alvino with fifty- five assists and seventeen digs and Kauliakamoa with twenty-two kills and fourteen digs.
The Chargers were led by Geri Heimann who had fourteen kills on the day with a .194 attack percentage and Kayla Bessmer setting up twenty-nine assists.
The Swords improve to 2-0 on the season and Briar Cliff falls to 0-3. Chaminade's next match up will be, Saturday, August 25, 2007 when they meet up with Rollins College at 9:00am at the Afook Chinen Civic Center.
