Swords Volleyball Falls in Five to HPU

Final Stats

Honolulu, HI- This one was typical Chaminade-HPU. Hard fought and every point contested. In the end, Hawaii Pacific was victorious in five games. (CUH score first 30-23, 26-30, 30-22, 21-30, 17-19)

Chaminade got out early taking game one 30-23, but it was back and forth after that, with HPU taking games two and four and setting up a decisive game five.

The Lady Swords came out tough in the decisive fifth game taking a 12-9 lead before HPU's Kelly Balanay scored three straight to knot things up at 12. The game went back and forth after that, until a CUH attack error finished the game 19-17 in HPU's favor.

There was no shortage of big performances though, as Trina Kauliakamoa was huge for the Swords, coming up with 30 kills and 17 digs with an impressive .362 attack percentage. Samantha Miller added 14 kills and 17 digs.

Freshman setter Tanya Alvino contributed 67 assists and 10 digs in defeat. Chaminade won the dig battle 86-84, but was out-hit .273 to .220.

Kelly Balanay led the way for the SeaWarriors with 26 kills. Pac West All-League candidate, Vanja Radanovic did not play for Chaminade.

Chaminade falls to 8-4, 1-3 in the Pac West with the loss. HPU grabs their first PacWest win, improving to 1-3 in conference, 6-9 overall.

The Swords are off until October 12th and 13th, when they head to Belmont, CA for two matches with NDNU. First serve is set for 7PM both nights (PT).
