Waipio, HI- The Silverswords took on the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific tonight in what was suppose to be a double header match up against both, HPU and BYU Hawaii, the BYU Hawaii game got suspended due to rain and poor field conditions. CUH lost the game against HPU and were playing well against BYU Hawaii before the suspension of play, leading 8 to 1 and the end of the first.
The HPU game was score less heading into the bottom of the 4th inning, when the Sea Warriors exploded and came up with 4 earned runs. The Sea Warriors held onto their four run lead for the remainder of the game. Despite the loss, freshman pitcher, Chelsi Walls, pitched a solid three innings for Chaminade, she gave up only 3 hits to the 13 batters she faced. Freshman pitcher, Kasy'e Lalau game in off the bench and also pitched well, she faced 12 batters total and had 2 strikeouts for the Silverswords. She also gave up 2 earned runs, Chelsi Walls suffers her first loss of the season; she is 0-1 on the year.
HPU was led by Nicole Kalakau who had 2 RBI's for the Sea Warriors; she went 2 for 3 for the day.
Vince Lombardi once said about winning and losing, "Winning is not a sometimes thing; it's an all the time thing; you don't win once in awhile; you don't do the right thing once in awhile'; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." Chaminade continues their strong play early on in this softball season and despite the one big inning from the Sea Warriors, they played a great game. With the loss the Silverswords fall to 1-2 overall and HPU improves their record to 2-0 on the year. CUH returns to the field on Monday, February 20th in an exhibition match up against, University of Regina, Canada. This match up a double header, the first pitch of the first game is set for 12PM HT and the second game is set to begin at 2PM HT, both games will be played at CORPS field in Waipio, Hawaii.
