Honolulu, HI- The cross-town rivalry continues. The Swords held off a tough HPU squad at McCabe Gym tonight, winning 67-63 in front of a raucous crowd at McCabe Gym.
HPU had the lead at the break, up 33-31 at intermission. HPU didn't slow down to start the second half, taking a double-digit lead early in the second half. Chaminade was helping the cause, committing 20 turnovers on the night. The Swords responded, as a Noah Gottlieb three tied the game at 61-61 and Mohamed Tangara took over from there.
The 6'8 transfer scored the final four points of the night, making the go ahead basket and knocking down two free throws to ice the game for the Swords.
CUH out-rebounded HPU 43-28.
Jason Curtis led Hawaii Pacific with 18 points on the night.
Chaminade improves to 7-7 on the year, 4-2 in the Pac West conference. Hawaii Pacific moves to 7-6 overall, 1-3 in the Pac West. The Swords are back in action on Thursday night (Jan 22th) vs. Hawaii Pacific at the Blaisdell Center. Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT.
