CUH MBB: Swords Handle Academy of Art 85-70

Honolulu, HI- The Swords threw a haymaker of a first punch at Academy of Art tonight, going up 35-13 midway through the first half of action and never looked back, defeating AAU 85-70. 

 

Eight early points by Matt Cousins got the Swords out to a 16-5 lead and CUH took it from there.  Cousins finished the night with 19 points and 10 rebounds. 

 

Junior Steven Bennett added 15 points and 9 assists, while freshman Waly Coulibaly added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. 

 

Junior Kevin Kucel tallied a Chaminade career high 7 points while dishing out 4 assists and adding 2 rebounds in 19 minutes.  Ten Silverswords saw at least 14 minutes of action and all ten players scored.    

 

The game was a sloppy one, with the teams combining for 32 turnovers. 

 

The Swords shot 48% from the floor and 36% from three on the evening.  Chaminade won the rebounding battle 45-36.    

 

Jordan Knox had 19 points for the Urban Knights in defeat.   

 

Chaminade improves to 7-9 on the year, 4-3 in the Pac West. Academy of Art moves to 0-19, 0-9 in Pac West play.  The Swords are back in action vs. Dominican (CA) on February 8th.  Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
