HONOLULU, HI – The Lady Swords fell to Beijing University 82-57 tonight as part of the 2011 Asia-Pacific Tournament hosted by BYU-Hawaii.
The Swords got off to a quick start, going back and forth in the first half with Beijing before a late spurt led to a 47-30 Beijing lead at the half. Beijing University, from the People's Republic of China, used a significant height advantage to gain the halftime advantage.
The Swords continued to fight in the second half, and all twelve Swords saw action in tonight's contest. Chaminade shot 32% from the floor and 36% percent from three as Beijing's height advantage allowed them to challenge Chaminade around the basket.
Two Chaminade newcomers: junior point guard
Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI /Roosevelt) and junior forward
Nikki Tauau (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica) were impressive in their Silversword debuts. Zane had 2 assists to go along with 15 points and Tauau added 15 points and 4 rebounds in the defeat. Junior
Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha), who sat out 2010-11 due to transfer requirements, was also a factor. Kaneaiakala had 12 points and 4 rebounds, while sophomore
Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) added 4 points and 4 assists in the loss.
Chaminade dropped the rebounding battle to Beijing 26-37.
Beijing was led by Lili Wang with 23 points in the win.
Chaminade will take on D-One Stars in McCabe Gym on Nov. 15
th. The exhibition will be played in McCabe Gym and will start at 7:30 PM HT.
