PHOENIX, AZ – Chaminade senior forward/center
Matt Cousins (Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman) has been selected the first Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2011-12 campaign. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 14, for games contested Nov. 4-13.
Cousins led the Silverswords to a 2-0 week by averaging 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, topping the PacWest in both categories. He also ranked ninth in shooting in the conference, making 54.5% (12 of 22) of his field goal attempts.
Cousins also ranked fourth in the PacWest in free throw shooting, making 15 of 17 (88.2%) attempts from the line. He also hit 2 of 4 (50.0%) shots from beyond the arc.
Freshmen
Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) and
Darko Vukasovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Yuma), along with junior
Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood) also represented the Swords on the Pac West Weekly Honor Roll.
Chaminade is set to face UCLA in the opening round of the 2011 EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Swords will face the Bruins at 4:30 PM HT on November 21
st at the Lahaina Civic Center. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
