Box Score HONOLULU, HI – The Lady Swords lost a tight contest this afternoon with St. Augustine's (SAC) this afternoon in Chaminade's second game in as many days at the Oahu Classic at McKinley High School.
CUH battled the highly-regarded Falcons from Raleigh, NC throughout the game, not allowing St. Augustine's to lead by more than seven points throughout the first half. SAC already has some impressive victories in the early season, previously beating West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan this year.
Sophomore forward
Markeshia Manning (Kapolei, HI/Pearl City) got the Swords within six to end the half, making three free throws in the last two minutes as Chaminade went to the break down six, 33-27.
A Denika Harden jumper got the Falcons their first double-digit lead of the contest with 8:43 left, but it did not last long as a
Nikki Tauau (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica) lay-up cut the lead to nine points. Tauau finished with seven points and eight rebounds. The Swords stayed at that distance for the rest of the game. Junior point guard
Dianna Zane (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) scored the last of her thirteen points on a layup in the final minutes to cut the lead to eight. It was the closest Chaminade got in the last ten minutes. Manning and Zane each finished with six rebounds.
Chaminade battled the much taller Falcons on the glass; corralling 48 rebounds to 50 for St. Augustine's. The Swords were impressive defensively, holding the Falcons to 32% shooting. CUH shot 33% from the floor.
Coach Keanini was pleased with this afternoon's effort: “We did a lot of good things. I love this team. We faced an athletic team and we were down around eight with a minute to go. We rebounded as a team. We hung in there the whole way.”
Chaminade is back in action against Hawaii Pacific on Dec. 4
th at Moanalua High School in Honolulu, HI. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM HT.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 0-2. St. Augustine's improves to 4-1 with the win.
