MBB: Chaminade Finishes Road Trip with 95-83 Win over ARTU

Murray explodes for 34 points

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, CA– Chaminade earned their third straight PacWest Conference road win this afternoon, defeating Academy of Art 95-83.  Prior to the contest, the Urban Knights were 5-0 in home contests on the year. 
 
A quick start with eight points by Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) and the Swords gave CUH an early 17-8 lead over Academy of Art less than eight minutes into the contest. Silversword guard Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/ Will C. Wood) continued where Coulibaly left off and quickly had ten points with seven minutes left in the first half as Chaminade led 27-15 over ARTU. The Swords led 42-33 at the half.  Murray finished the half with 13 points while Coulibaly added 12 in the opening twenty minutes.  Chaminade shot 46% from three (5-11) in the half and out-rebounded the Urban Knights 18-15. 
 
ARTU cut the lead to 49-44 with a made three by Bryan Fisher with just over sixteen minutes left in the contest.  CUH responded with a quick 15-4 run to lead 64-48 following a De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) made three with 14:21 left and forced and Urban Knights timeout.  The Urban Knights cut the lead to seven points with seven minutes left, but could get no closer as Chaminade closed out ARTU 95-83. 
 
The Swords were impressive offensively, shooting 59% from the floor and 56% from three (10-18).  Bennie Murray led the offensive charge, scoring 34 points on 12-15 shooting, including 4-6 from three.  Waly Coulibaly added 20 points, including shooting 10-11 from the free throw line. De'Andre Haskins contributed a double-double in the win with 11 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
Sophomore guard Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) had 11 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds while senior Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, Australia/Holy Spirit) tallied 6 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds before fouling out of the contest.
 
Academy of Art was led by Alex Carmon with 21 points.
 
Coach Bovaird talked about the win: "What a great end to a long, productive road trip.  We shot the ball great tonight and the defense was pretty good again. These seven guys we took on the road played like warriors."

The Swords move to 10-8 on the year and 7-3 in the PacWest with the win. ARTU falls to 5-10 and 3-5 in the PacWest on the year.  Chaminade is back in action at BYU-Hawaii in PacWest Conference action on February 2nd.  Tip is set for 7:30 PM HT at the Cannon Activities Center.
