MBB: Five in a Row! Swords Handle UH-Hilo 89-67

Box Score HONOLULU, HI– CUH earned their fifth PacWest Conference win in a row tonight, defeating Hawaii-Hilo 89-67 in McCabe Gym. The Swords got off to a great start, leading 19-9 following a jumper by CUH sophomore guard Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) with 13:52 left in the first half.  Chaminade continued the offensive barrage throughout the half and led by 20  points at the half, 53-33. Senior De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) led the way with 12 points and 8 rebounds while sophomore Mike Green (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) was 4-5 from three in the half and also contributed 12 points. 
 
The Swords shot 60% from three and 46% from the field in the first twenty minutes, while the Vulcans shot 37% from the floor and 43% from three. 
 
UHH made a run in the second half, cutting the lead to 68-56 with under 11 minutes left in the contest. CUH responded with a 10-2 run to go up 78-58 and help put the game away.  CUH won the contest 89-67. 
 
De'Andre Haskins had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds while Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/ Will C. Wood) and sophomore guard Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) both  added 17 points in the win. Chaminade outrebounded UHH 47-41.  The Swords shot 47% from three on the night, making 16 three's. 
 
Hawaii-Hilo was led by Mychael Hearn with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Swords move to 12-8 on the year and 9-3 in the PacWest with the win. The Vulcans fall to 5-15 and 3-9 in the PacWest on the year with the loss.  Chaminade is back at home against BYU-Hawaii in PacWest Conference action on February 9th.  Tip is set for 7:30 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
