The third-seeded Swords advanced to Saturday's title game with a 58-45 win over No. 2 Grand Canyon on Friday at the Felix Event Center. An 18-2 run mid-way through the second half turned what was a one point deficit into a 16-point lead that they would not relinquish.
Pac West Player of the Year
DeAndre Haskins (Long Beach, Calif./Jordan) scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, while
Lee Bailey (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) netted all 12 of his points in the second stanza.
Dixie State, the top seed in the Pac West Tournament, downed BYU-Hawai`i in the other semifinal, and is led by Pac West First Team honoree Zach Robbins who averages 13.1 points per game. DeQuan Thompson led the Red Storm with 18 points against the Seasiders, while Steven Larson notched a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds).
Dixie State defeated CUH, 87-78, in St. George, Utah, on Dec. 3, the only meeting of the teams this season.
