HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's basketball team got 18 points from Kiran Shastri and a double-double from Kuany Kuany to lead the Silverswords to a 79-58 win over St. Katherine Monday at McCabe Gym.

Kuany had 16 points and 11 rebounds as he posted his first double-double of the year and the ninth in his career. Lee Bailey had 12 points and three assists for the Silverswords, who improved to 2-0 on the year.

The Firebirds (1-3) were led by Anthony Miller's 15 points.

Thirteen 'Swords saw action in the contest with all but two getting in the scorebook. Four other players contributed with five or more points with Kevin Hu getting seven while James Harper and De'Von Boyd had six each. AJ Mathew had five.

Despite the 21-point win, St. Katherine demonstrated scrappiness throughout the game, trailing by single digits much through the first half. Chaminade held a 33-22 halftime lead.

The Silverswords went on a 17-9 run to open the second half as their lead expanded to 19 points with 11 minutes remaining. But the 'Swords were never able to pull away as their lead never got to 20 until a minute left in the game.

The 'Swords were able to hold the Firebirds to a 32.8 shooting percentage while making nearly 43 percent themselves. They also hit 7-of-22 3-pointers while limiting St. Katherine to only 1-of-15 from beyond the arc. Chaminade also held a 48-36 advantage on the boards. Both squads also turned the ball over 16 times and both had ample opportunities at the free throw line with Chaminade converting 18-of-30 shots while St. Katherine was 19-of-28.

The Silverswords will get the week off, then head to the Valley Island for the 31st Annual EA SPORTS Maui Invitational on Monday, Nov. 24, when they face Pittsburgh at 4 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
