GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Chaminade University women's tennis team wasn't shown any love on Valentine's Day, dropping their second match of the day in the Paseo Presidents Day D2 Dual at the Paseo Racquet Club. The team came away empty-handed in the win column after dropping a 6-3 decision to Dixie State on Friday.
After losing to Cal State Stanislaus earlier in the afternoon, the 'Swords (0-3) returned to the courts as the No. 1 doubles team of
Kimberly Takara and
Jan Matsumoto took down the Red Storm duo of Stomy Dvorak and Summer Child, 8-2. Dixie State (4-2), however, won No. 2 and 3 doubles.
In singles action, Chaminade No. 1
Melanie Schumilas rallied after barely dropping her first set to Joy Naigeon, 6-7. The junior from Waterloo, Canada, won the second, 6-3 then outlasted Naigeon in a thrilling 12-10 win in the third and final set.
Takara made it two singles wins for Chaminade as she downed Laura Hartle, 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.
However, the Red Storm captured the rest of the singles matches to get the team victory.
The 'Swords face fellow Pacific West Conference member Dominican University of California in Saturday's match at the Paseo Dual.
