’Swords End Road Trip with Loss at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Chaminade University men's basketball team ended a 10-day, four-game road trip with a 102-66 loss to Dixie State Saturday at Burns Arena.

Rohndell Goodwin had 23 points to lead the Silverswords who fell to 15-9 overall and 11-6 in the Pacific West Conference.

Dantley Walker came off the bench, hitting four 3-pointers for 12 points, his most since Nov. 12. Justin Bridges added 10 points while Kuany Kuany had seven points. Austin Pope logged his 11th double-digit rebounding game with 11 boards.

Zac Hunter had a team-leading 19 points for the Trailblazers (16-5, 13-2 PacWest) who are 10-0 at home this season.

Despite the loss, the 'Swords remain in the No. 4 spot for next month's six-team PacWest Tournament at the Concordia University Irvine campus, two wins ahead of No. 5 Point Loma.

Chaminade led briefly in the opening minutes of the first half before DSU took the lead. However, CUH hung around as it stayed within eight points before the home team took an 11-point lead with 3:40 left in the half. Kuany stuck a 3 to bring the 'Swords to 40-31 at the 3-minute mark but an 11-1 run by Dixie State, capped by Daylor Youngblood's banked-in triple at the buzzer, proved to be the catalyst as it gave them a 51-32 halftime lead.

The Trailblazers went ahead by early in the second half and never looked back the rest of the game.

Chaminade was held to just 29 percent (20 of 69) shooting from the floor, its lowest of the season, while Dixie State made 38 of its 68 tries for nearly 56 percent. The 'Swords were also out-rebounded, 50-38.

The 36-point margin of defeat is the largest suffered by Chaminade to a non-Division I squad since 1996-97.

The Silverswords return home to McCabe Gym with three straight home games to end the regular season, starting next Saturday against Academy of Art. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. with live streaming audio on GoSwords.com.
