HONOLULU – The season for the Chaminade University men's basketball team will be extended for one more home game.
The Silverswords on Saturday evening officially punched their ticket into the 2023 Pacific West Conference Basketball Championships after Hawai'i Pacific University lost at first-place Point Loma in San Diego.
The 'Swords (14-14, 9-11 PacWest) received the PacWest's sixth and final berth into the tournament which will be played on their home floor at McCabe Gymnasium. Chaminade is locked in as the No. 6 seed and will face the third seed in quarterfinals which begins on Thursday, May 2.
All six teams in both the men's and women's tournament have been determined with a week remaining on the regular season docket.
The Silverswords, who on Jan. 8 were eighth in the standings at 2-6 and three games behind the sixth spot, won seven of their last 12 games to capture their place in the tournament.
Chaminade will be making its eighth all-time appearance in the PacWest Championships, tied with Azusa Pacific for the most in tournament history. Their eight tournament wins are also the most by any PacWest member.
The top two teams receive byes and will face the quarterfinal winners in the semifinals on Friday, March 3. The championship games on Saturday, March 4, will be at 2 p.m. for the women followed by the men at 4:30 p.m. The victors will earn the PacWest's automatic berth into the NCAA West Regional.
