Cross Country Completes Season at West Regional

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Chaminade University women's cross country team ended their 2025 season on Saturday at the NCAA West Regional at the Ash Creek Preserve hosted by Western Oregon University.
 
The Silverswords finished 27th overall with 776 points while Nikiji Dayse (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett) completed her junior season with a time of 22 minutes, 16.97 seconds at the women's 6-kilometer run.
 
On the men's side, Kalama Francisco (Pahoa, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Hawai'i) was running as an individual.
 
Dayse finished 89th overall, the best finish by a 'Sword in the regional since Emily Ochsner's 35th-place finish in 2012, although Dayse's time was nearly 40 seconds faster.
 
Jocelyn Thomas (Tonganoxie, Kan./Kaiser, Honolulu) was Chaminade's No. 2 finisher with a time of 23:08.41 followed by Emily Cooper (Mount Desert Island, Maine/Mount Desert Island) in 27:17.69.
 
Cassie Chong (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) completed the course in 27:28.81 while third-year senior Jordyn Koki (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) wrapped up her final career race in 27:51.88. Maggie Turnbach (Brick, N.J./St. Rose) rounded out the Silversword runners with a time of 28:35.16.
 
In the men's 10-k, Francisco, competing in his first regional, crossed the finish line in 38:39.17.
 
Chico State won both the women's and men's regional with 40 and 75 points, respectively.
 
Bethany Mapes of Biola, who was the PacWest individual champion at the Hawai'i Country Club on Oct. 25, won the regional with a time of 20:29.31, three seconds ahead of Chico State's Iresh Molina. Mapes is the first PacWest runner to post the West Regional's lowest time since 2004.
 
Chico State's Damian Garcia won the men's race in 29:26.33, bettering runner-up Ricardo Vargas of Cal Poly Pomona by four seconds.
