Biography
2013: Named to the Pacific West Conference All-Academic Team ... participated in all six races ... was the Silverswords' second-place finisher four times with two third-place finishes ... was the 31st overall finisher twice (HPU Invitational, Sept. 28; BYUH Invitational, Oct. 19), her best overall finishes in the season ... set a season-best time of 20:48 at the Pacific West Championships in Novato, Calif. (Nov. 2).
2012: Was the team's Scholar-Athlete.
High School: Ran for Coach Welch at Maui High School. Was a three-year varsity runner. In 2008, captured seventh place at the Maui Interscholastic League varsity championship meet and finished 43rd in the Hawai`i State Meet during her junior year. In 2009, her senior season, was the MIL runner-up varsity championship meet, was 17th at the Hawai`i State Meet with a time of 20:14.35. Was the team MVP during her senior year, was a first team team MIL all-star in her junior and senior years. Shannon also shined in track and field as well as soccer and competed in volleyball and swimming with the Sabers.
Personal: Born in Wailuku, Maui to Raymond and Theresa Whener. Has one brother, Raymond.
