Darrell Matsui enters his seventh year at Chaminade and has more than 35 years of coaching experience, 20 at the collegiate level.
He began his career under Tony Sellitto at Honolulu's Maryknoll High School in 1978. He was an assistant coach and junior varsity head coach at Maryknoll for 10 seasons before moving with Coach Sellitto to Hawai`i Pacific in 1988. Matsui was an assistant coach on the Sea Warriors' 1993 NAIA national championship team. He was also a part of Chaminade’s three PacWest championships and NCAA post-season appearances in 2006, 2008 and 2011.
Matsui graduated from the University of Hawai`i in 1982. Matsui’s duties include game preparation, scheduling, and recruiting.
He and his wife Amy reside in Honolulu and have a daughter, Chani.
