Swords Fall in Second Round of Maui

Nov. 28, 2003

After winning for the first time in eleven years at the Maui Invitational on Monday, Chaminade lost to Hawaii 68-54 Tuesday night in an all-island semifinal. The Silverswords will face San Diego State on Wednesday for third and fourth, while Hawaii will take on Dayton in the championship game.

The game was just the third meeting between the two Honolulu schools. The Silverswords won the last meeting, 56-47, in December of 1982.

The undersized Silverswords were able to slow the game down until midway through the second half when the Rainbows pulled away with a strong inside-outside game. The Silverswords trailed just 26-25 at the break and held close for much of the second half.

Roy Stigall and Sam Henning scored 12 points apiece in the game for Chaminade. Henning also added nine rebounds, while Stigall hit two 3-pointers. Bryon Sykes also hit a pair of threes for eight points.
