Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University women's volleyball opened PacWest league play with a bang tonight, dropping UH-Hilo in straight games 30-28, 30-23, 31-29. The win improves the Swords overall record to 5-4, 1-0 in PacWest play. The Vulcans drop to 3-6 on the season, 0-1 in conference play.
Freshman Patti Hardimon led the Swords with 18 kills on 27 attacks for an amazing .556 hitting percentage. Juniors Valasi Sepulona and Kahala Kabalis tallied 17 and 15 kills respectively. For the second match in a row, setter Michelle Norman handed out more assists than the opposing team. The junior from Tempe, Arizona dished out 50 of CU's 55 assists while the Vulcans combined for a total of 43.
The two teams meet again tomorrow night in a non-league contest at McCabe Gym. Game time is 7:30 PM.
