Chaminade Leads PacWest After Sweep

Hilo, HI - The Chaminade University volleyball team swept past Hawaii Hilo in two matches this weekend, 3-0 and 3-1. Chaminade holds a half-game lead in the PacWest standings over Hawaii Pacific.

In Friday's PacWest match-up Valasi Sepulona led all players with 16 kills and eight digs. Kahala Kabalis finished with 14 kills and Kalae Araujo tallied 16 digs. The Vulcans were paced by eight kills and nine digs from Christine Cooley. Cori Sutter had seven kills and seven digs. The Swords took the match 3-0 (30-17, 30-28, 30-20).

In a non-conference game on Saturday, four Swords reached double-digit kills. Kahala Kabalis led with with 17 and 21 digs. Patti Hardimon had 16 kills, Valasi Sepulona finished with 15 and Marijana Stanic added 12 in the win. Kalae Araujo collected 31 digs in the match. UH-Hilo was led by 13 kills and 10 digs from Christina Cooley. Nanea Kamauoha added 11 kills and 13 digs. Final score 3-1 (30-21, 29-31, 30-19, 30-26).

Chaminade is 12-3 overall, 6-1 in PacWest play. The Swords return home to face BYU-Hawaii on October 19th.
