Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University men's basketball team (3-3) played it's fifth game in seven days today, beating Division I Coastal Carolina University 70-61 at McCabe Gym.
Chaminade held Coastal Carolina to 26.7 percent shooting in the first half including 1-of-13 from three-point range. Coastal Carolina had a 12-11 lead at the 10:50 mark before Chaminade went on a 18-6 run to end the first period. The Swords had four three-pointers in the first half. Chris Reaves led the Swords with 9 points at the break. Pele Pealey had six points and 10 rebounds for the Chants in the half.
Chaminade built a 19-point lead at 46-27 with 11:54 left on two free throws from Corey Campbell before a Coastal Carolina run cut the lead to six at 53-47 with 5:35 remaining. Dylan McCune hit a huge three to give the Swords a 58-47 lead with 3:50 to go. The Swords sealed the win by hitting six free throws in the last two minutes of the game.
Chaminade had four players in double figures. Chris Reaves led with 17 points, Scott Metcalf scored 13 and Dylan McCune connected on four 3-pointers for 12 points. Corey Campbell added 10 points and 4 rebounds while Zack Whiting tallied 11 rebounds, 7 points and 7 assists from the point guard position.
Coastal was led by Colin Stevens with 22 points. Pealey had 15 points and 16 rebounds.
The Swords host league foe Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday December 4th at 2:00 PM.
