Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University men's basketball team won their fifth game in a row, dropping Graceland University 88-82 in overtime at McCabe Gymnasium.
Three Silverswords posted double-double nights with Dustin Mittelsteadt leading the way. The senior center logged 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Zack Whiting scored 15 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out 9 assists and Scott Metcalf tallied 14 points and 11 boards in the game. Junior Chris Reaves added 12 points and 3 assists.
The Swords trailed 78-73 with 19 seconds remaining before junior Chris Nelson nailed a three-pointer to cut the Yellowjacket lead to 2 points with 15 seconds to go. Chaminade quickly fouled and got the ball back on a missed Graceland free throw. On ensuing possession Dustin Mittelsteadt rebounded and put back a missed jump shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
Scott Metcalf scored 8 of the Swords 10 points in the extra period to help propel Chaminade to the 88-82 victory.
The Swords (6-3, 1-0) take on Northwest Nazarene University on December 28th. The game will be played at Kaiser High School at 2:00 PM.
