Honolulu, HI - The Chaminade University men's basketball team opened PacWest conference play with a convincing 92-73 win over UH-Hilo today at McCabe Gym. The Swords improve to 4-3 on the season and the Vulcans fall to 4-1 overall.
Chaminade led 46-35 at the break behind Zack Whiting's 17 points and 5 assists. Whiting finished the game with 23 points, 10 assists and 3 steals. CU shot 50% from the field in the first half, including 7 of 15 from long range.
The Swords opened the second period with a 15- 2 run, and built the lead to 26 points on a Chris Reaves free throw with 14 minutes to play. Chaminade finished with four players in double figures. Nick Frey scored a season high 16 points, Dylan McCune added 15, and Chris Reaves tallied 13 points and 5 assists.
Osador Esene led the Vulcans with 31 points and 4 rebounds.
The Swords take a two week break before returning to action on December 19th against Waldorf College. Game time is set for 7:30 PM in McCabe Gym.
