Swords Pick Up First Win in Zack Whiting's Homecoming

Chico, CA- In Chaminade's first game of the year against a Division II opponent, the Swords handled Chico State 81-67 in front of a crowd of 862.

Chaminade's defense took center stage early on, not allowing a point for the first 8:07 of the game. In the same period, CUH scored 17 points to take control of the game. The Swords never trailed, and were up as many as twenty in the first half. Zach Whiting led four players in double figures with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in the victory. Chris Nelson added 14 points, while Corey Campbell and Stewart Kussler added 12 a piece.

The Swords, the aggressor from the start, outrebounded the Wildcats 41-33 and had 10 steals on the evening. CUH shot 50% from the field and outscored Cal State Chico 46-22 in the paint. Chris Reaves added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist, 4 steals for the victors.

Cal State Chico was led by Andy Bocian with 18 points. The Wildcats fall to 1-4 on the year.

The Swords travel to Western Oregon for two games this weekend, Friday and Saturday, both at 7pm. Chaminade takes on Central Washington Friday, and Western Oregon Saturday. Chaminade improves to 1-3 on the year.
