Swords Finish Off Seasiders

Laie, HI- Chaminade defeated the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii, 97-83, in a game played in BYU-Hawaii's "Old Gym". The Swords were the aggressor throughout, and outrebounded the Seasiders by ten, 37-27. The victory was the first Chaminade win at BYU-Hawaii in Matt Mahar's tenure as both an assistant and as head coach.

Chaminade took the lead early in the game and held a ten-point advantage, 48-38, at halftime. BYU-Hawaii was able to cut the lead to four points at 75-71, but CUH answered and pushed the lead back to double digits to keep the game out of reach.

Chris Reaves led five Silverswords in double figures with 23 points along with 7 rebounds. Zack Whiting added 17, while Chris Powell and Dylan McCune each had 12. Corey Campbell had 11 for Chaminade and Powell had a double-double while leading all players with ten rebounds.

CUH shot 53% from the field, 50% from the arc and 80% from the free throw line.

Paul Peterson led the Seasiders with 22 points and nine assists. Austin Smylie added 19 points and eight rebounds while Eric Boyce came off the bench for 11 points.

Chaminade improved to 4-4 with the win, 4-1 vs. non-Division I opponents, while the Seasiders dropped to 2-3 for the season. The game was the first Pacific West Conference contest of the season for both teams.

Chaminade plays BYU-Hawaii again on Tuesday in Honolulu at McCabe Gymnasium at 7:30 pm.
