Honolulu, HI- Chaminade knew they would be in for a battle against a tough Morningside team. Due to some tough rebounding, timely baskets, and big contributions from the bench, CUH prevailed 85-81 over the Mustangs of Sioux City, Iowa.
Chaminade got out of the gate on the Mustangs and were up by 5 points at the break. Throughout the second half it looked as though CUH would turn the game into a rout, and were up 17 points late in the game. Morningside refused to quit however, shooting 9-15 from the arc in the second half, often times with Swords closely guarding.
The Mustangs got no closer than four as the Silverswords came up with a play every time they needed it to keep the visitors at bay. Chaminade was led by Chris Nelson with 17 points off the bench and had six players with 9 points or better. Chris Reaves had 15 points and 9 rebounds, Corey Campbell added 16 and Zack Whiting had 9 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.
Morningside was led by guards Brad Schmit and Paul McGill with 23 points and 15 points respectively. Together, they shot 11-19 from the arc on the afternoon. Morningside is currently ranked #25 in NAIA Division II and is 12-3 on the year.
