Honolulu, HI- Playing their fourth game within 74 hours, Chaminade University won for the eighth straight time and brought their home win streak to twenty games with a convincing win over Cheyney University of Pennsylvania 86-70.
The Wolves hung tough early and managed to stay around most of the first half. The game was at ten points in Chaminade's favor after a quick Sword run ended the first stanza. "We figured they would come with a lot of energy in the second half, we knew we would have to set the tone and control the tempo the first five minutes of the second half" said Coach Mahar. The Swords did just that. A ten point lead quickly became fifteen and then twenty as the game was no longer in doubt with about eight minutes to go in the second half.
Chaminade was led by Zack Whiting who had 22 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds to go along with no turnovers. Chris Reaves was one rebound away from a double-double with 9 rebounds and 5 assists to go along with 20 points on the evening. Chris Nelson and Corey Campbell chipped in 16 and 14 points respectively as they combined to shoot 7-14 from behind the arc.
Cheyney was led by Asaad Brown who had 13 points for the visitors.
The Wolves fall to 1-8 on the year, while Chaminade improves to 9-4 overall and 9-1 against non-Division I opponents.
