Chaminade Drowns SeaWarriors

Jan. 11, 2006

Honolulu, HI- In a rivalry where records are thrown to the curb, Chaminade answered every HPU challenge and won going away in McCabe Gym by a score of 86-73.

The Swords were in for a battle early with Donnell Dobbins leading the charge for the SeaWarriors with some hot shooting from the arc. Dobbins led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 5-9 from the arc. Adam Reinking added 15 points in defeat, while two-time PacWest player of the week, Audrius Peciukas, was held scoreless. The SeaWarriors, however, had to deal with five double-digit scorers from Chaminade. Chris Reaves led the CUH scoring with 21 points to go along with 11 assists and 8 rebounds, just missing a triple-double.

The Silversword shooting combo of Chris Nelson, Dylan McCune and Corey Campbell shot 10-20 as a group from 3. Nelson and McCune each had 16 points, while Campbell added 14 points in the win. Chaminade had to make up for the loss of All-League point guard Zack Whiting and did by sharing the scoring load. CUH also outrebounded HPU, and were one short of doubling the SeaWarriors on the glass with a total of 45-23. Chris Nelson led all rebounders with 9 and fellow Sword forward, Marko Kolaric added 7.

Stewart Kussler was perfect from the field (6-6), as was Chris Powell, whose emphatic dunk helped ignite a Chaminade run that put Chaminade ahead to stay. CUH also shot a scorching 55% from the field and 46% from the arc.

HPU falls to 3-12, 0-2 in the PacWest, while Chaminade improves to 10-4, 3-0 in the PacWest. The Swords are currently on a nine game winning streak, and have not lost in 21 games in McCabe Gym.
