Swords Get Back To Winning Ways

Honolulu, HI- Coming off a tough loss, their first in over a month and a half, the Silverswords responded with a 84-63 blowout win over HPU.

Chaminade and HPU battled back and forth early on, with the lead staying in single digits for most of the first half. A late first half run gave the Swords a 45-33 lead at the break. In the second half, however, CUH put the game out of reach with nine players scoring and five in double figures.

"It was nice to see the way our guys responded. Our effort was there, and guys made plays. We feel we have a lot of guys that can and they did" said Coach Mahar. Chris Reaves had 22 points in the win and sharpshooter Chris Nelson (15 points) added 8 rebounds as did Chris Powell. Zack Whiting finished with 7 assists to go along with 10 points and Corey Campbell added 11, while going 3-5 from the arc.

The Swords shot 57% from the floor and 45% from three. Stewart Kussler led the way shooting 75% from the floor and scoring 14 points in 19 minutes of action.

HPU was led by Brandon Lee with 11 points off the bench.

With the win, Chaminade improves to 13-5 on the year and remains in first place in the PacWest with a 6-1 mark. The SeaWarriors fall to 4-14, 0-4 in PacWest play.

CUH heads to the road now and takes on #15 Grand Canyon on Jan. 28th and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Jan. 30th before returning home.
