Zack Whiting named MVP, Swords defeat Sonoma State 71-64

Rohnert Park, CA- In a battle featuring two league champions, Chaminade defeated Sonoma State 71-64 in a back and forth contest with tournament level intensity.

Physical throughout, the final game of the Ron Logsdon Classic turned out to be just that, a classic.

Chaminade took the halftime lead, 34-27, behind solid defense and rebounding. After a back and forth start to the second half, the Swords took the lead for good on Marko Kolaric three pointer to go up 56-54. Kolaric finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds on the evening.

Sonoma State did not have an answer for All-American candidate Zack Whiting, as Whiting took over down the stretch, scoring 11 points in the final 3:45 to get the victory. Whiting finished with 19 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds to earn tournament MVP.

Stewart Kussler added 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Darrell Birton and Hayden Heiber each added 7 points in the win.

CUH outrebounded the Seawolves 37-22. Andrew Kochevar led Sonoma with 16 points, while JT Tipton added 14 points and 9 rebounds.

With the win, Chaminade improves to 4-4, while Sonoma State goes to 1-5.

Chaminade is back in action against Presentation College on December 17th at McCabe Gym.
